Ordnance Survey (OS) is the national mapping service for Great Britain. The company provides the most accurate and up-to-date geographic data, which is used by government, business, and individuals.

Business Situation

OS required a Lone Working Health and Safety App to protect their at-risk employees in the field. Their Lone Workers operate throughout Great Britain in various locations and sites. OS also required real-time location data, to understand where surveyors are at different points of the day. A key requirement for OS was to ensure surveyors can trigger an alarm signal if they find themselves in an emergency situation. OS required these alerts to be monitored 24/7 via an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).

The Solution

The Vismo App provides OS with a real-time location solution to ensure managers can easily locate surveyors in the field throughout the day. Once the Vismo App is downloaded and activated, there is no further interaction required with the App, as it works in the background of the device. To ensure the surveyors are protected in the field, Vismo has a Red Alert button capability. If an employee finds themselves in an emergency situation, the Red Alert button can be easily activated on the device. When activated, audio is discreetly recorded on the device and automatically send back to the Vismo Secure Portal. Vismo partners with Securitas who provide 24/7 monitoring for the OS users.

The Vismo App is fully customisable, enabling the App to be branded with the OS logo, relevant phone numbers and specific features to meet their needs.

The Mass Notification feature is a key element for OS. The notifications can be sent to teams in specific areas or to all users. If an incident was to occur, OS can easily view where employees are and Mass Notify all individuals in the area.

The Vismo App provides OS with peace of mind, as they can confirm if employees have returned home safely at the end of the day. The App provides support to employees, through the Red Alert feature and the two-way messaging functionality. While using the App, employees can carry on with their work as usual. Vismo minimises data usage and battery drain, OS found Vismo had 40% better battery performance than similar applications.

Another benefit for OS is the ability to extract historical data from the Vismo Secure Portal. This enables OS to better inform decisions around resource deployment and future recruitment strategy. OS has teams and surveyors all over Great Britain. Vismo has the ability to replicate their business hierarchy within the Vismo Secure Portal to ensure team leaders are only seeing their relevant teams locations, which increases efficiency.
